Dreams Jade Resort & Spa vs. Dreams Sapphire Resort & Spa
By Melissa Woods, Destination Wedding Specialist Updated

Choose Dreams Jade if you want a compact, walkable resort that works for wheelchairs, walkers, multi-gen groups, and wedding groups. Choose Dreams Sapphire if your kids want a waterpark and nonstop activities, or your group needs a villa. Both are family-friendly Dreams resorts in the Puerto Morelos area, both are about 2 hours from the Tulum airport, and neither is a beach-first resort. The real difference is ease versus action.

Who should book Dreams Jade
- Families traveling with a wheelchair, walker, or stroller. The resort is about 90% accessible, the route from the lobby to the beach is fully accessible, there are 2 amphibious wheelchairs and a pool lift, and the staff were trained by Wheel the World.
- Multi-gen groups who want to stay close together. The layout is compact and walkable, and the walkways are covered, so a rain shower doesn't stop anyone from getting to dinner.
- Destination wedding groups. Jade hosts 250+ weddings a year across 15 venues, the main lawn holds up to 400 guests, and Catholic ceremonies can be held in the pergola.
- Active families on a shorter trip. It's about 35 minutes from Cancun, with kayaks, paddleboards, hobie cats, tennis, and pickleball included.
Skip it if the beach is the point of the trip, your kids are expecting waterslides (there is no waterpark or splash area), or you want brand-new rooms. The rooms are clean and spacious, but the design feels dated.
Who should book Dreams Sapphire
- Families with young kids. A waterpark with three big slides (42 inch minimum height), a splash park, a kids club for ages 3 to 12, and aerobungee.
- Kids who never sit still. The Core Zone has arcade games, air hockey, foosball, and a pool table, plus a batting cage, archery range, and climbing wall outside. There's also a tennis pro on site for paid lessons, and 4 pickleball courts.
- Big families and groups. The two-story villas sleep up to 8 (6 adults max) with a private pool and butler service, and the Two-Bedroom Family Suite guarantees two connecting rooms.
- First-time Mexico travelers. It's about 25 minutes from Cancun, with an easy, approachable feel.
Skip it if anyone in your group has mobility concerns, since the resort is large and spread out and the regular buildings are 3 stories with no elevators. Also skip it if the beach is the reason you're going, because seaweed near shore is common here.
The upgrade question
Jade has one upgrade tier. Sapphire has two, and they are not the same thing.
At Dreams Jade, Preferred Club adds an adults-only pool and lounge, à la carte breakfast at Mercure, suites in premium locations, and a jacuzzi on your balcony. Preferred Oceanfront and Governor Suites also come with a butler who can make dining reservations.
At Dreams Sapphire, Club Level is the Preferred Club: a private lounge, afternoon hors d'oeuvres, and a 16+ pool with pool concierge and premium bar service. Club & Villas, which opened in 2024, is its own section with a 16+ rooftop infinity pool, the Sky Bar, rooftop sushi at Gohan, and the two-story villas with private pools and butler service. Neither club pool at Sapphire is open to kids, so plan for family pool time at the main pool. Ask me what each costs for your dates.
What you won't find on the resort website
At Dreams Jade:
- Pack water shoes. A few spots where you walk into the ocean are rocky.
- The artificial reef offshore is a kayak trip, not a swim. Grab a kayak and paddle out.
- Snag a hammock swing at the Mix, the beach bar. It's the spot for an ocean-view drink.
- Teppanyaki at Spice is the one dinner you can reserve. Bookings open at 4:30 pm for same-day seating, and the first seating is at 5:00 pm.
- Mercure is adults only, and breakfast there is for Preferred Club guests.
- Expect a timeshare pitch from Unlimited Vacation Club. A polite no works.
At Dreams Sapphire:
- The Core Zone isn't only for teens. Anyone can play the arcade games, air hockey, and pool table.
- Revive Bar covers the healthy side: fresh juices, smoothies, salads, and plenty of vegan picks.
- A resort bike tour runs for ages 12 and up. Times and the meeting spot are posted in the Hyatt Inclusive Collection app.
- A Mexican breakfast booth sets up in the courtyard every day with fresh breakfast tacos, tortillas, and empanadas.
- Cabanas at the Club Level pool are included, but you reserve them each day with the concierge or pool attendants.
- The splash park runs during family hours, 12 pm to 5 pm, and parents need to be there with their kids.
These are a few favorites. The full insider guide, with what to order and what to do at each resort, comes to my clients after they book.
How to choose
Ask yourselves one question: does our family need easy, or does it need action? If getting around matters most, because of a wheelchair, a walker, grandparents, or a wedding group, go Jade. If your kids want waterslides, a climbing wall, and something new every hour, or your group wants a villa, go Sapphire. The airport transfers are only 10 minutes apart, so that will not break the tie.
Frequently Asked Questions
Dreams Sapphire, for most families with little ones. It has a waterpark with three slides, a splash park, and a kids club for ages 3 to 12. Jade has a kids club for ages 3 to 12, a teens club for 13 to 17, and a kids pool, but no waterpark or splash area.
Both host weddings. Dreams Jade hosts 250+ weddings a year across 15 venues, its main lawn holds up to 400 guests, and Catholic ceremonies can be held in the pergola. Some days it hosts 3 to 4 weddings, so I confirm venue timing early. Dreams Sapphire has the Sky Terrace rooftop venue in its Club & Villas section.
Dreams Jade. It's about 90% accessible, with 9 accessible rooms, a fully accessible route from the lobby to the beach, 2 amphibious wheelchairs, a pool lift, and staff trained by Wheel the World. Sapphire is large and spread out, and its regular buildings are 3 stories with no elevators.
Neither is a beach-first resort. Sapphire's beach is longer and sandy, and Jade's is small, narrow, and rocky in spots. Both see seaweed near shore often, so I'd choose either one for its pools and activities, not its sand.
Dreams Sapphire is about 25 minutes and Dreams Jade is about 35 minutes. Both are about 2 hours from the Tulum airport.
No, both are family resorts for all ages. Each has adults-only space: Jade's Preferred Club pool, and at Sapphire, the Club Level pool and the Club & Villas rooftop pool, both 16+.
Yes. Jade guests get preferred rates at El Camaleón and Gran Coyote. Sapphire guests get preferred rates at El Camaleón, Gran Coyote, and Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club.
