- Couples who want to stay on property. Three pools plus a Preferred Club pool, a spa, and live music at Rendezvous every night.
Skip it if you want to spend your days on excursions (most tours are a 35 to 40 minute drive, with boat tours to Isla Mujeres the exception), you want a party resort, or you are traveling with a younger group like a bachelorette party. Desires is fun at night, but this is not a party resort.

- Couples who like variety. Free access to Dreams Playa Mujeres next door adds 10 restaurants, 7 bars, 2 pools, and a water park. Preferred Club guests get the lazy river too.
- Golfers. The resort sits inside the Playa Mujeres golf community, home to an 18-hole Greg Norman-designed course, with discounted green fees.
- Anyone who wants a fresh, modern resort. A full renovation wrapped up in early 2026, with refreshed rooms, restaurants, spa, and a new two-story Preferred Club building.
- Active couples and friend groups. Tennis, a bike tour through the Playa Mujeres complex, kayak tours, archery, and sunset from the observation tower.
Skip it if you want everything within a short walk (the property is spread out and golf carts connect the areas), you want the standout perks without upgrading (the private beach club, Preferred Club restaurant, and lounge all require Preferred Club), or you plan to spend most days on excursions.
What you won't find on the resort website
At Secrets Playa Blanca:
- Mexican theme night is tucked way back by the theater. Great food, live music, and a cute setup. Don't skip it.
- Teppanyaki at Himitsu is the one restaurant that takes reservations, and they open at midnight for the next day.
- The tub in your room has jacuzzi jets. The button is hidden on the wall.
- Bali beds are an extra charge and they do sell out, so book ahead through the app or the concierge.
- The Preferred Club butler works more like a concierge and communicates over WhatsApp. For younger couples in Preferred Club, ask for building 2, since building 1 is much quieter.
At Secrets Playa Mujeres:
- Check-in happens in a welcoming building at the front, not the main lobby. A golf cart takes you on to the pools, rooms, and beach.
- The golf cart line gets busy around 6:30 to 7 pm. Give yourself an extra 15 minutes for dinner.
- Restaurant reservations cannot be made before you arrive.
- The bike tour through Playa Mujeres runs Wednesday through Sunday, lasts 50 minutes, and holds 12 people. Sign up with the concierge.
- Preferred Club gives you status at both Secrets and Dreams, plus a 7-course dinner at Kíik Ché when you stay 3 or more nights.
How to choose
Ask yourselves one question: do we want one resort to settle into, or two to roam? Settle-in couples go to Playa Blanca. Roamers and golfers go to Playa Mujeres. The airport transfer is the same 45 minutes, so it will not break the tie.
