Who should book Secrets Playa Mujeres

• Couples who want more to choose from. Free-flow access to Dreams Playa Mujeres next door adds 10 restaurants, 7 bars, 2 pools, and a water park and splash area.
• Golfers. The resort sits in the Playa Mujeres golf community, close to an 18-hole Greg Norman designed course, with discounted green fees and transportation included.
• Friend groups and mother-daughter trips. A music lounge open until 1 am, plus tennis, archery, a bike tour, and the activity list at Dreams next door.
• Anyone who likes a modern, refreshed look. The resort reopened in early 2026 and all guest rooms were renovated.

Skip it if you want to walk everywhere. The property is spread out, and golf carts connect the welcome area, the main resort, and Dreams. It is also not near the major excursion hubs.

Who should book Excellence Playa Mujeres

• Honeymooners and anniversary couples. The resort leans romantic and upscale, with no wristbands and low-key nights.
• Girls trips and beach lovers. A wide, long walking beach with blue-turquoise water, plus a 3,500 square foot gym and tennis courts.
• Couples who care about exact room location. You can choose your exact suite for a fee through a direct suite-only booking of 3 nights or more, using the resort's interactive map at least 7 days before arrival.
• People who like space. 7 pools, including quiet pools, social pools, and swim-up bars.

Skip it if you want a lively party resort, or brand new rooms. The rooms are in good shape with soft updates in 2024, but the resort opened in 2007.

The upgrade question

Both resorts have a club tier, and they are built differently. Preferred Club at Secrets adds a new two-story Preferred Club building, a dedicated check-in lounge, an exclusive restaurant, a private beach club with its own pool, and Preferred Club perks at Dreams, including the lazy river. Stay 3 or more nights and a 7-course dinner at Ki' Ki' Che' is included. Excellence Club adds a private beach area, private pools (heated in winter), a private lounge and lounge bar, fresh flowers and sparkling wine on arrival, and one hydrotherapy treatment per person. What you won't find on the resort website

At Secrets Playa Mujeres:

• Check-in is not at the main lobby. It is a welcoming space with a bar and some dining, and a golf cart takes you from there to the main resort.
• The golf cart line peaks from 6:30 to 7 pm as everyone heads to dinner. Give yourself an extra 15 minutes to get to a reservation.
• Dinner reservations cannot be made before you arrive. Once there, you can book through the concierge or the Hyatt Inclusive Collection app, starting at 9 am.
• The Hyatt Inclusive Collection app also holds menus, activity schedules, spa booking, and Bali bed booking.
• Coco Cafe is big and newly renovated, a good spot for an afternoon coffee or ice cream break.
• Oceanfront pool Bali beds cost extra. The others are first come, first served, and the Bali beds at the Preferred beach are free for Preferred Club guests.

At Excellence Playa Mujeres:

• Bali beds are first come, first served at no extra fee. If one has a reserve sign, the concierge can book it for $100, with a bottle of sparkling wine included.
• Each building has its own concierge desk on the first floor, which can help with spa reservations and room liquor and snack preferences.
• Spa services can be prebooked before your trip, and the Excellence Collection app lists monthly specials.
• Thursday night is Mexican Fiesta dinner night.
• Book direct for 3 nights or more and a private transfer in a luxury SUV is included.
• Dinner on the beach is $250 per couple, and the menus are in the app under Love and Memories.

How to choose

Do we want more to choose from, or a quieter week? If more dining, a music lounge, and golf nearby sound right, start with Secrets Playa Mujeres. If no wristbands, low-key nights, and picking your exact suite sound right, start with Excellence Playa Mujeres. The beach and the airport ride will not break the tie, since the sources describe both beaches the same way and both resorts are 45 minutes from Cancun.
